For the ones that attended the #GEFASSEMBLY2023, along with 185 country representatives and environment leaders, it feels ironic to sense the smoke and look out the window at the haze from the forest fires and keep discussing and finding opportunities to solve this crisis. At the same time, it’s interesting to learn that there is no clear yet as to what emotion is a stronger motivator - fear or hope. Maybe it's that people are afraid and therefore don't act. Maybe they are "not afraid enough"... Nevertheless, it is clear for all of us that fighting the climate crisis requires concerted action, reliable funding, and effective global collaboration, but we need to do it now. Without delays, without more bureaucracy, we can not wait longer. We have a clear and urgent need and there is a good amount of resources to leverage. Let’s move and make this happen! The success requires global collaboration and unprecedented speed.From the evolutionary perspective fear is what makes us run for our life - aka, take action. So perhaps fear is a better motivator to take action AND it is by taking action that gives us hope that the change will come.
